About GRE

The GRE General Test closely reflects the kind of thinking you’ll do in today’s demanding graduate school programs, including business and law. It measures your verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills — skills that have been developed over a long period of time and aren’t related to a specific field of study but are important for all.

The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, is an important step in the graduate school or business school application process. The GRE is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA) globally.

GRE scores are valid for five years. ETS will keep your score report on file for five years after you take the test. Since the makers of the GRE consider scores to be valid for five years, schools also accept scores that were originally issued up to five years ago.

In short, the GRE can be taken as many times as the participant deems necessary to get a desired score. Despite the fact that there is no limit on the number of total times the test can be taken, in one single calendar year the test can only be attempted five times and each test must be taken 21 days apart

On average, a 320 GRE score is considered to be a good GRE score. As GRE is one test that is today widely accepted across universities not just for masters in science but for law and business streams as well, it is roughly taken by half a million aspirants every year.

Why candidates prefer GRE

Because the GRE is accepted at many graduate programs, incorporating the test into an

application strategy often bolsters positioning, especially for non-traditional applicants. Joint

degree applicants, such as those applying to MPP/ MBA programs, usually opt to take the GRE.
